About Me

The topic of money has always made me nervous. I was simply focused on completing the long, arduous process of medical training. Why worry about student debt when you are trying to decide if there are enough times of the day to eat, shower, sleep, or study? Now, finally, as an early-career physician, I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to reflect on the road I have taken, and to think more about the bigger pictures.  What is important in my life? What brings meaning? How can money help me get there?

I had some common questions about finances that many of you might have:
  • How can I pay off my student loans?
  • How should I save for retirement?
  • Should I buy a house/property?
  • How can I support my family while trying to invest in my own future?
  • (And too embarrassed to ask): How does the economy work exactly? How do things like interest rates and stock exchange work?
I've decided it's about time to start learning some personal finance. I soon realize it is difficult to find understandable, organized, information on personal finance relevant to physicians. So, I signed up for an online course on financial planning, looked up textbooks or the internet for any questions, and started to organize all of the information. I realize how many of my peers shared the same questions. This prompted me to want to share what I have learned with others, ultimately cumulating into this website and book.

Keep in mind though, that I do not have a secret formula for getting rich. And I do not think being financially rich will automatically bring you spiritual and emotional wealth.

I do think it's important to have some basic knowledge and skills to guide you through your career and changing life circumstances. It's also important to know when to seek for professional advice.

Do not let money control you, but learn how to control your money! (Say it with me, friend!)

Thanks for joining in the process of learning together. Let's dive in!
